On a recent trip to Colorado for the Holiday Season, I ran across
an article in the local newspaper. It was one of those that catches
your eye and you have to do a double take. An 850 pound holiday
display make from SemiSweet, Milk and White Chcoclates from
Switzerland and France. As I read a little more, it said it had
a mountain and village scene with a working Chocolate Train.
Ok, Now it had my couriosity. I just had to venture the 45 minute
drive to Keystone Resort and Lodge in the Colorado Mountains.

Everything you see here is made out of 100% chocolate.
This entire display took over 5 months and 750 hours to create.

The mountain in the center of the display was made from 280 lbs
of SemiSweet chocolate.  The buildings are all solid chocolate and
range from 5 to 8 lbs each and are compliant
with the "Snake River Valley" master plan.

If you look real carefully, you will see a chocolate waterfall
on the right side of the mountain. They used 3 gallons of a special
mix of chocolate and syrup to get the effect of the flowing water.

The trees are white chocolate with green food coloring.
If you look real closely, you can see the train on the
bottom of the layout. They had it running Fast.
The train cars bodies are solid chocolate, apx. 2 lbs
each and are mounted to the wheel frames.
( Because it is dark chocolate, its a little hard to make out )

The 2 nutcrackers were a tribute to Max & Edna Dercum,
Skiing pioneers of Summit County, Colorado.
Each Nutcracker is 120 lbs of solid chocolate

The question that everyone was asking was:
Won't it melt ??
The way the master Chef explained it was that chocolate
has a melting point of 86 degrees.  Being up in the high
altitude ( apx. 10,000 feet above sea level ), the temperature
rarely ever gets that hot inside the resort.

I hope you all enjoyed this little display.
