Florida Garden Railway Society's

May 2006 Members Tour

May, 2006
Chris SCHUCHMANN hosted the May meet for the SouthWest Division.
About 22 members showed up to learn, talk and observe.  Chris is the youngest
member of our club and it was very kind of his parents to allow some of his older
friends come over and take over the house for an afternoon.
Chris’s layout consists of over 700’ of track in a fantastically landscaped 100 x 20’
section of the front yard.  There are multiple lines so you will find two or more
trains running at the same time.  Motive power is all diesel… BIG diesel with large
passenger cars, GP and F series locos and long trains.

Our meeting kicked off with a new workshop show and tell session.  Bernard Aston
presented a couple of his home built structures that he is taking back to his large
layout in England.  He showed his Silverton Waterworks pumping station which was
all scratch built and contained a motor and gearing to create the illusion of an
actual water pumping facility circa 1919-28.  He also demonstrated his home made
steep incline rack and pinion track complete with shed and sound unit.  This too will go
on his layout back in England. Bernie and his wife spend several of the winter months
here but make their regular home in the U.K. where they are returning for the summer.
