Florida Garden Railway Society's

DECEMBER 2006 Members Tour

December 4, 2006

The HARRISS's held the Christmas run for the Central Division's December meet.
Bud & Phyllis had a great turnout for a holiday gathering. Over one hundred people, not
counting kids (where do these little people come from, anyway?) took in a cloudy afternoon
of train watching. Despite a few shortcomings in the mechanical operations, and a couple
of spectactular mishaps, everyone was more than satisfied.
Tim Heading's really nice Pacific derailed and rolled down a two hundred foot (scale)
embankment, but was up and running again in just minutes. John Luther's spectacular
diesel lashup suffered coupler problems and did some disconnected running without a
payload. Someone brought a tiny cab-mounted TV camera setup which was a hit with
old and young alike. Dave LeRoy's cab-forward ran flawlessly for hours, paced on the
inside track by Frank Graham's Christmas music trolley car.
John Braun brought expertise and model activity, and everyone marveled at the new
expansion into the mountainous area. We had extensive coverage from the local paper,
the St Augustine Record, including multiple pages of pictures.  (Slow news day?)
Phyllis did her usual spectacular job of feeding this bunch, even though it was held
after they had allegedly had lunch. Nobody left unhappy, and the lingering lasted
for a while.
