Florida Garden Railway Society's

FEBRUARY 2007 Members Tour

February 11, 2007

Paul & Pat WAGNER held the February meet for the Southwest Division. The
The WAGNER's had a great turnout for a beautiful afternoon gathering. 34 people
took in all the trains and food for the day.
Although this layout is a single 200’ loop formed into a long folded “dogbone”, Paul and his guests had four trains dodging each other and running for cover in and out the 4 spur sidings.  Controlled by Aristocraft Train Engineer throttles, both battery power and track power were combined to provide independent control of trains.  Gene Staggs built the battery and engine control cars and provided the Train Engineer equipment.
Rolling stock included 1:29 scale steam engines and heavyweight passenger cars in Crescent Limited livery, in addition to a peddler freight and a mile long ore train, headed by Frank Schlee’s  Mallet, complete with enough sound and smoke to bring the neighbors running.  A Kalamazoo woodburner also made an occasional excursion run.
After an outrageous pot-luck dinner, Gene Staggs did a seminar about experiences with his first attempt at fine scale scratch building.  Gene, along with several others under the tutelage of one of our more experienced members, Jack Ziegler, built a bobber caboose using stripwood, and a large assortment of metal detail parts.   Gene displayed several examples of their work.

There was plenty of great food items and the raffle prizes were abundant!
