Florida Garden Railway Society's

OCTOBER 4th, 2008

On a bright and beautiful autumn day, the Tampa Bay Division teamed up with
the Largo Central Railroad at the Largo Central Park for a day of railroading fun.
We want to thank George Miller for arranging this joint meet (and the weather).

We had G-scale trains running along with the 7 ½” trains of the LCRR. What a sight to behold!
As the BIG trains came through the park the engineers would stop at the FGRS display to let
the riding passengers view the display and get off for an up-close experience.
Many passengers opted to detrain and spend time with us. As word grew in the park about our
being there we had other visitors stop by to see the FGRS display.

This was a very busy day for the Tampa Bay division beginning with set-up at 8:00AM and
ending close to 4:00PM. Thanks to all who came out to work and run trains and to those who
brought scenery details to enhance the layout. Our equipment manager, Kevin Timmons,
had a track plan in mind (“a meandering work of art”) and made it come true with the help
of able bodied assistants.

The day didn’t end at 4:00PM! We had an auction!!!! This was our first attempt at an auction
in a meet setting and it worked brilliantly. We had many donations from club members
(34 to be exact) and found that members of the FGRS were joined by members of the LCRR
in the bidding. We couldn’t have enjoyed our success without everyone’s participation.

A special THANK YOU goes to Warren Jamison, President of the Largo Central Railroad,
and to all of the members of the LCRR who hosted us and gave us in-depth tours of their
facility along with rides on their equipment. It was good to get reunited with this fine organization!
THANKS, AGAIN!!!
